  • 06:58 UTC MTG hosts successful International Day of Peace celebration

    Seven teams and 59 MTG leaders participated in the International Day of Peace celebration 2015 held in Mnarani. Boys and girls engaged in three football drills, that were designed by Coaches Across Continents and promoted peaceful coexistence. The teams that participated in the event were Kilifi mixed secondary school, Green field, Kilifi Queens, Kilifi United, Mnarani Soccer, Young Stars, MTG Trainers of Trainers and HURIA.

    The MTG annual report 2014 is out. The annual report tellls MTG's progress in 2014 towards the organization's strategic outcomes. The report introduces MTG's new activities in 2014 in the areas of football, sexual reproductive health, leadership, economic empowerment, community engagement, partnership development and organisational growth. The report contains figures, statistics, interesting facts and, of course, stories.

    KILIFI, KENYA (September 17, 2015) - 'Sport has the power to change the unite people,' said Nelson Mandela. The United Nations have also recognized the power of sport in peace building and conflict resolution. Therefore, Sport for Development organization all over the world will use sport activities to celebrate the International Day of Peace on 21st September 2015. Moving the Goalposts (MTG) is one of those sport for development organisations.

    'I am a player and a peer educator in Mwareni field. I used to conduct peer education in my league field. Then my efforts were recognized and I become a peer educator in the MTG in-school programme. My self esteem was low. I was afraid. During my first session, I really struggled but the second and the third, I found it easier with support from my partner, a more experienced peer educator. Later in the year I was allocated to two schools and I did it confidently. In my community, girls come to me for counselling. In one of the schools there was a girl who was pregnant.

    Moving the Goalposts is organizing the 7th annual MTG Girls' tournament for players in the under 16 years age category (born on or after 1st January 1999) and the age category between 16 and 25 years (born between 1st January 1990 and 31st December 1998). The tournament will be held on Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th and Friday 11th December 2015 in Kilifi.

    We invite teams/organizations to register for this tournament.

  • 05:19 UTC Ford Foundation's visit to MTG

    Ford Foundation, one of MTG's longstanding donors, visited MTG on Thursday 30th July with seventy of their grantees during the Annual Convening for Learning, Innovation and Social Change in Natural Assets that was held from 27th - 31st July in Serena Beach Hotel and Spa in Mombasa.  MTG hosted a morning session in MTG's headquarter in which the Ford Foundation grantees got the opportunity to get to know MTG.

    Since 2002, girls are playing football in MTG. As Mr. Mbaji, one of the first teachers who embraced the concept of girls' football and MTG said in 2011: 'When I met Sarah Forde, the founder of MTG at an educational meeting in 2001, there was no football for girls. People disapproved it: girls raising up their legs..? That was not done.'

    Moving the Goalposts has held a meeting with stakeholders from the community and the government to explain the plans for the development of a football field for MTG and the Mnarani community near the headquarters in Mnarani. The football field will be developed with support from streetfootballworld and GIZ.

  • 03:36 UTC Girls and Football, the winning essay

    Mejumaa Mwakaramu is a class seven pupil from Matuga primary school. She was awarded as the best essay writer in the essay writing competition 'Girls and Football' that was held during the MTG Primary School Tournament. The focus of the tournament was on increasing public awareness on the inequalities that exist in football, particularly, opportunity and resourcing for women football.
